Pillow talk

Pillows are the unsung heroes of a good night’s sleep. Your pillow can really make the difference between a comfortable night’s sleep and whether you wake up with aches and pains, so spending all that time choosing a new bed/mattress can count for nothing if your pillow is not right.

 Pillows wear out too…

In survey by Sealy and the BCA, 15% of those asked did not change their pillows for at least 10 years.* The filling in a pillow will degrade with time and there are plenty of hygiene reasons why changing your pillow at least every fi ve years is a good idea.

 Try before you buy

How many times have you had to keep buying a new pillow as you just can’t fi nd one that is comfortable? Pillows like mattresses should be tried out beforepurchase. The Sealy/BCA research found that 76% of people NEVER try a pillow out before buying.* How do you know if it is right for you if you don’t try it? You can trya pillow even in its packaging, so opting to choose from those wrapped singly is a good idea. Make sure you test potential pillows out on a mattress too, so buying from a bed retailer could be the best option.

 Perfect pillow…

Your perfect pillow should keep your head in line with the rest of your body and mould to the shape of your head and neck.

 One lump or two?…

The pillow survey by Sealy and the BCA found that most people – 56% – use two pillows.* This is fi ne as long as they give the right support and the perfect position for your neck and head. If you do need two pillows, buy them together and try them together.

 Pillow fight…

Your pillow can be as important as your mattress and even if you share a bed, don’t share a pillow – keep it to yourself!

 Not just the head…

In our survey*, we found that many people use pillows to provide support to limbs or other parts of their body. If this is the case, choose carefully and, if the need is medically related, talk to your doctor or healthcare professional to get the best advice on what to use.

 Take your own…

If sleeping in a bed other than your own, wherever possible take your own pillow with you! Your neck is used to your own pillow and won’t have to adjust as much.
